Western UP Snowmobile trail report

Happy New Year!!! Snow showers in the forecast for the next few days. Still reporting early season riding poor to fair.

GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY Reports Trails 2&8 were groomed- conditions are poor to fair. Trail 2 from Ironwood to Wakefield have bare spots so use caution…otherwise the trail is in fair shape. Trails 11N, 11S and 160 are not being groomed at this time. We need more snow. Hang in there!!!!

GOGEBIC AREA GROOMERS Lake Gogebic groomers report all trails are groomed conditions are fair. Groomers will be out day and night so please pull over if you see the groomers. Do expect some brown spot for the snow is thin…but all the wet spots are pretty well froze. The trails are signed, brushed and just waiting for more snow.

U.P.THUNDER RIDERS OF WATERSMEET will not go out until we get more snow.

Snow not

So much for snow we are suppose to be getting a few inches of snow and so far a dusting not good. Cross Country Skiing is good to very good from what guests are telling us there are some thin spots and some ice but overall good. Snowmobiling we do have 3 sledders out riding they told Anne this morning that is was good but they are from Iowa so this maybe good to them I will try and find more info when they return. Sam

Winter forecast

So much for the winter forecast of being colder then normal and average to above average snowfall. Way warmer and no snow so far and not looking good in the forecast for the next couple of weeks. Can only hope we get one of our famous snowstorms that sneak up on us and bury us with a ton of snow. SISU cross country ski race is the weekend of January 13 & 14Th so we need snow.

ABR trail report

ABR 6 Groomers out doing their magic Posted December 27, 2011, 8:30 am 6 of the groomers have been out since early this morning and the trails are coming out very nice. We expect to have 50 km groomed by 9 AM including new tracks.

55 k was retracked this morning and 43 km of skate lanes groomed. The new snow really is smoothing out the trails.

WESTERN U.P. TRAIL REPORT - 12/23/2011

We had gotten alittle bit of snow yesterday...variable amounts from 1" to 3" but every little bit helps at this point. We have snow in the forecast for today and tonight with low temps in the teens.  This will help to firm up our wet spots.

Both downhill and cross country skiing are good to very good for what snow we have. Talked to people downhill & cross country and they both said skiing is good they were surprised at how good it was. Cross country was at ABR and downhill was at Indianhead Mt. Sam

Good & Bad

The good is downhill and cross country skiing are not bad and most people said it was good to very good. Snowmobiling on the other hand not good at all hardly any snow on the trails and last I heard groomers are still parked waiting for more snow. Forecast is not looking good with mild temps and just a chance of snow hope this changes and gets back to real winter. Sam

2 to 4 inches of heavy wet snow not bad its a start but its still wet underneath if you didn't plow or shovel to let the cold temps get to the wet stuff it will stay wet that's why I plowed everything so it can freeze again. Sam

6 inches of heavy snow fell today. The skiing is back to winter like conditions! The groomers are headed out tonight and will back out in force in the early AM We plan to have 55-60 km groomed for Friday and in very good to excellent shape.

A mess

What a mess warm temps wet heavy snow only a 1 or 2 inches makes for a big mess. The warm temps soften up the base of snow on the parking lot and back yard making a slushie mess that was fun to plow this morning. Some sod was removed but overall way better than I thought it would turn out with the warm temps. Forecast is calling for colder temps starting on the weekend with a chance of snow on and off will have to wait and see how much as its not looking like much. Sam

Ugly out

Not nice out at all misty most of the snow is gone 2 to 4 inches left on the ground next to nothing on the snowmobile trail. Hope it starts to snow soon as we really need it bad. Sam

Nice day

Way to nice out temps in the low 40's not good what little snow we had is mostly gone anywhere its been plowed or packed down. Forecast is calling for warm temps at least till Wednesday then cool down with a chance of some snow but not looking like much at this time. We can only hope winter returns with a vengeance. Sam

busy weekend

Full motel with the sno-cross race at Blackjack, cross country ski race at Wolverine and the Red Light Rally in Hurley. Not sure on the red light rally as there is not enough snow on the trails to hold up to many sleds before it will be down to dirt. Had to shovel this morning from blowing snow off the roofs and then plow in a few spots to clean up other than that a nice sunny day but cold. Sam

Puppies

My daughter has golden retreiver pups for sale 6 males 3 females price $250.00 pure breds but no papers. They will be ready to go on Christmas eve if interested give us a call, they are great dogs as you know we have two from the last litter. It snowed last night 1 to 2 inches not much but it is a start hopefully it keeps on snowing as we need it for Dec. 8th & 9th weekend. Its a big weekend junior cross country ski meet at Wolverine, National snow-cross race at Black Jack and the Red Light Rally in Hurley. If we get the snow its going to be a big weekend for the area.
